In the old times, fishing was the primary source of livelihood. For example, the Lappish Sámi settlements were located near the water, and their place of residence changed according to the annual cycle of fishing. The oldest found settlements, fishing traps, and fish bones are around 10 000 years old.
The roots of modern free-time fishing are deep in history. It combines ancient elements as well as the fun and benefits of fishing.
Come and try this traditional source of livelihood in the form of ice fishing! We will travel to the fishing spot on a lake with a snowmobile-pulled sled so you can comfortably enjoy the beautiful snowy scenery. Ice fishing is done by making a hole in the ice and fishing from it with a small rod called "pilkki" and everyone is free to try and catch a fish! Dressing up for the weather is essential, and it is also nice to enjoy a warm drink every now and then! After the fishing trip, we will head for the hut for some fish and potato salad by a warm open fire.
